Mexico is becoming the key supplier for the world's aerospace industry. In the past five years, the industry's exports growth has been of 140 percent and the number of companies established in the country has tripled over the same period. Mexico has more than 190 companies established in the country, which are largely foreign enterprises that have migrated in recent years, following the successful example of the automotive and electronics industries. These companies employ around 30,000 workers and their exports totaled over three billion dollars in 2008.
The aerospace industry focuses mainly on attracting foreign investment. The main products manufactured in Mexico and exported to the world are turbines and their parts, harnesses, aluminum pieces and echo sounders. The United States is the main destination market for Mexico’s aeronautical manufactures, as it receives 81 percent of Mexican exports. France and Germany are in second place with 2.8 percent each. Canada and the United Kingdom are in third place, each with a 2.6 percent share.
