The automotive industry consists on the production of automotive vehicles for the transportation of people and freight in general, as well as their parts and components, both for original equipment and for the spare parts market. Its main lines of business are: light vehicles, heavy vehicles, auto parts and logistics services oriented to the automotive industry.

 

The automotive industry generates around 520,000 direct jobs and a million indirect jobs. It is the country’s second most important industry after hydrocarbons. Our country is among the world’s ten main producers of automobiles, trucks, parts and components. In 2008, national production exceeded 2 million units, with a 4 percent growth over 2007; and during the same period the total amount of exports was one million 661 thousand 406 dollars, 3 percent more than in 2007.
