Creative Industries

Mexico has many companies dedicated to offering cultural, audiovisual and entertainment services, which together make up the industries protected by copyright (IPDA). In 2006, the market for distribution of television contents was equivalent to 167 billion dollars. MIPTV considers that in 2011 it will be 251 billion dollars. It is estimated that the advertising market reached 479 billion dollars in 2008, of which 123 billion corresponded to television advertising.

According to ECLAC, for at least three decades culture has been increasingly linked to media dynamics. Furthermore, the cultural industry is becoming a strategic sector for competitiveness, employment, consensus-building, the way of conducting politics and the circulation of information and knowledge. Hence its importance as an industry. The increasing weight of the cultural industry is closely linked to its own diversification. Moreover, it should be pointed out that these industries make a strategic contribution to the promotion of Mexico’s image abroad.
