  • On June 3rd Mexican businessman Carlos Slim visited the Mexican Pavilion in World Expo 2010 Shanghai. Slim, who is considered the world’s richest man according to Forbes Magazine, congratulated the team that makes this possible through a message left in the special guest book.   • “It was an unexpected and surprising visit that made everyone proud and happy”, said Ana García, director of the Mexican Pavilion.   • From June 7 to June 13, the Mining Chamber of México will show the Chinese market the opportunities it offers in the Business Center of the Mexican pavilion. With the presence of the Minister of Economy, Gerardo Ruiz Mateos, and the Director of ProMéxico, Bruno Ferrari, this event will be an excellent opportunity for the Mexican mining industry to display its strengths.

    Around 500 participants -both businessmen and investors- will gather and maintain constant business meetings with their Chinese equivalents. During the same week, the Mexican Delegation will hold a meeting with the Mexico-China Chamber of Commerce.
  • The Commissioner General of Expo 2010 Shanghai, Hua Junduo, visited the Mexican Pavilion on Friday June 4. Accompanied by Eduardo Seldner, Commissioner General of the Mexican pavilion, and with the assistance of Ana García, Director of the Mexican Pavilion, Mr. Hua took a tour in different exhibition areas of the pavilion. “This is really beautiful”, he told Mr. Seldner when watching the videos of the “donuts”, which illustrate the Mexican landscape and heritage in the City and Patrimony hall.   • On June 11, about 300 Mexican football fans gathered in front of a big screen in the Mexican pavilion’s restaurant to watch the World Cup opening ceremony and the first match between Mexico and South Africa, including the Mexican pavilion’s Commissioner. Many fans wearing Mexican team jerseys and traditional Mexican straw hats cheered for the team when it scored the equalizer, and the pavilion seethed with excitement.   • On June 26 and 27 a pantomime performance will take place in the Music Club of EXPO CULTURE CENTER. This very special play aims to break barriers between deaf and hearing people, and between different cultures and languages. Professional theater company Seña y Verbo (Sign and Word), composed of deaf and hearing people, will travel to China to convey a universal message through the body, emotions and sign language. ¡¿QUIÉN TE ENTIENDE?! (Who understands you?) is a play about how to communicate in a world of hearing people. Three deaf people, born into hearing families, thrust into a hearing world. Three different ways of dealing with the same challenge: How can I communicate?

  • In the framework of Mexico’s participation in Expo 2010 Shanghai, a Business Seminar dedicated to Estado de México was held in the Grand Hyatt hotel, located in this city.   • During the first two months of Expo 2010 Shanghai, the Mexican pavilion has received more than 1 million 88 thousand 770 visitors. This number constitutes 59 percent of expected visitors and has been registered in only 58 days (of the 184 the Expo will last). Expectations of 10 thousand visitors a day have been exceeded, with a daily average of 18 thousand 770 visitors. The Mexican pavilion has received 6 percent of the Expo’s visitors, more than the 2.5 percent estimated several weeks ago.
