  • The International Herald Tribune highlighted the Mexican Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai in its last weekend edition. According to the New York Times publication “The Kite Forest has a stunning architecture”. The newspaper published a picture of it on its front page. They also highlighted the China, United Kingdom and Spain pavilions.
  • The Government of the state of Jalisco started its first Tourism Promotion seminar at the Mexico Pavilion Business Center in Expo 2010 Shanghai last Sunday. This event is the first of seven events that are scheduled and offered to present the state’s tourism attractions to Chinese tourism businesses.

  • On May 4, Huichol artists gathered at the Mexican Pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010. The artists—from the Municipality of Mezquitic, in the state of Jalisco—displayed colorful typical clothes and crafts that attracted many visitors. José and Hilario Ruiz visited the pavilion’s store, where people can buy crafts and have them personalized by the artists. The pavilion is expected to receive many more artists throughout the expo.

  • The Mexican Real de Oro Mariachi celebrated Cinco de Mayo in the esplanade of the US pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010. The event was attended by Mark Germyn, Director of the US Pavilion; Miguel Barrio, Consul of Mexico in Shanghai, and the Commissioner General for Mexico’s Participation at the Expo, who, together with other guests enjoyed a a selection of the most representative pieces of Mexican folkloric music.

     

    “The Hispanic community is one of the strongest in the US; therefore, this is a very popular day in our country and one of the main celebrations of the United States’ cultural diversity,” said Germyn. The American Commissioner added that he has visited the Mexico Pavilion twice and he emphasized the quality of Mexican food served there. “The pavilion really expresses the variety of Mexican culture,” he said of the pavilion’s museography.

    The two countries united to celebrate the 148th anniversary of the Battle of Puebla in a cordial and festive environment.

  • The Mexico Pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010 is exceeding assistance expectations; during its first three days, it received more than one thousand visitors per hour, that is, an average of 12,000 visitors daily, compared to the 10,000 visitors that the organizers had estimated.
  • On May 6, the Mexico Pavilion’s Business Center at Expo Shanghai 2010 was the venue for the state of Jalisco’s first Seminar for Investment Promotion. The event, which showcased the auto parts, communications, electronic, infrastructure, machinery, mining and chemical industries, was attended by more than 200 Chinese businessmen and by the CEO of Shanghai’s Industry and Trade Federation, Wang XinKui.

  • On May 6, the state of Jalisco’s tequila industry held a tequila tasting at the Mexico Pavilion. The event was attended by 35 special guests and Chinese businessmen. See gallery Foto 2 Foto 3 Foto 4

 

  • A group of fifty students from the University of Guadalajara visited the Mexican Pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010. The students, mainly from programs such as Finance and Economy, were hosted by Alonso Ulloa, Minister of Economic Promotion of the state of Jalisco, who invited them to develop better living conditions in the state through strategic investment work.

  • Pearl Lam, the famous Chinese artist and founder of the Contrast gallery of Shanghai, visited the Mexican Pavilion. She enjoyed seeing the crafts store and tasting the typical cuisine of the restaurant. With regard to the museum exhibit area, Pearl Lam said she was "fascinated with the huge art exhibition that shows the cultural similarities between China and Mexico through kites" and she added "it is very interesting that cultural roots are expressed through a selection of art pieces from millennia ago". The artist appreciated the work of Javier Marin’s Little Men and Little Women, a collection of 16 human sculptures made in bronze and resin, for its "expressiveness and the combination of materials."

  • The Mexican pavilion “is certainly one of my favorites aesthetically” said Carma Elliot Obe, Her Majesty's Consul-General in Shanghai.
  • Mexican group Positron delighted the public with a fusion of electronic rhythms, classical instruments and visual arts on May 10th, 11th and 12th in the Exposition Square.

  • The activity program for the Jalisco Business Mission in the Mexican Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai has come to an end. The program included 175 individual meetings with 72 food and beverage distributors and importers from Shanghai. Representatives for the Jalisco Business Mission held, on average, 25 individual meetings on May 10 and 11.

    ProMexico’s support was essential in gathering representatives from the leading beverage distributors and specialized store owners at the Mexico Pavilion Business Center. Representatives from Tequila La Quemada, Destiladora Suprema de los Altos, Destilería La Fortuna, FTPSA, Marvink, Tequila Quiote, Tequilera Newton e Hijos, Takasami, Marcob, Tana and Alejandra Aceves expressed their satisfaction with the meetings and the support they received. The third stage of the Jalisco Business Mission will end in the city of Guangzhou, where delegates will attend business meetings from May 13 to 15.

  • The lead singer of the Mexican rock band Café Tacuba, Rubén Albarrán, visited Mexico’s pavilion minutes before his first May 13th presentation at Expo 2010 Shanghai

  • On May 14, Mexican rock band Café Tacvba successfully concluded its second presentation at Expo 2010 Shanghai as part of the cultural activities organized by the Mexican pavilion.   • Café Tacuba’s concert “was completely fantastic and we were screaming and jumping like mad monkeys. I’m definitely going to buy their CDs as soon as I can”, said Arnaud de Schaetzen, VIP Liaison Officer of the Belgian pavilion at Expo Shanghai.

  • On May 21, Arturo Núñez Jiménez, Vice President of the Mexican Senate Board, visited the Mexican pavilion at Expo Shanghai.
  • On May 22, the Mexican pavilion’s Business Center at Expo 2010 Shanghai received about 30 Mexican entrepreneurs to discuss the food market in China. “A delicious piece of cake for those who know how to take it”, was the name of the Seminar given by Chi Nan, General Representative of the company Dextal International, to the Mexican delegation that attended the International Food Show in Shanghai (SIAL) the day before.   • On May 22, the participants of the May Summit Shanghai/Hangzhou, organized by the Art Foundation of China, visited the Mexican Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai. Thirty artists and curators from more than ten countries toured the art exhibition, the restaurant and appreciated the craftworks at the store. "On behalf of the China Foundation of Art, I thank Mexico for its hospitality", said Mike Hearn, curator of the Asian Art Met Museum Department.
  • Federal Deputy Marcela Guerra Castillo visited the Mexican Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai. "I am very proud of my country and our people, it has been a great experience being in the Mexican pavilion.   • On May 31st, the Mexican pavilion filled with joy thanks to the presence of forty children journalists. Invited by the Mexican delegation, children between eight and ten years old enjoyed themselves while learning about Mexican history in the country’s pavilion. Students of the New Youth Journalist Training School, played with the interactive tables and were attracted by the technology and images on the "donuts", which contain images of Mexican cities that have been named world heritage. After the tour of the "Kite Forest", the group climbed up the slope, where students participated in various activities, including games to learn about Mexico’s geographical location, as well as some Spanish words.
