Although Expo 2010 Shanghai is made up mainly of the pavilions of more than 190 countries, the Chinese government did not pass up the opportunity of conceiving five large thematic pavilions that condense the exposition’s main theme from different perspectives: “City People”, “City Life”, City Planet”, “City Future” and “City Footprint”.
The thematic pavilions are located in Zone B of the closed area of the exposition site, to the west of Expo Boulevard. Their forms are inspired by the architectural style of ancient Shanghai. With an area of 80,000 square meters and a basement of 40,000 the thematic pavilions are specially designed to be environmental-friendly.
